‘Welcome to Floriduh’ Vis Dev
‘Welcome to Floriduh’ is a drama series is aimed at Adults.
The series takes place in an alternate timeline where an unknown mutagen has infected Florida’s coastlines causing some people who ingest to either unaffected, die quickly from a rapid growth of barnacles, or change their DNA makeup and gain sea-creature like characteristics leading to the new classification of people known as ‘Sea People’ and the series follows a group of young adults navigating life after the societal transformation. I wished to create a greater metaphor for the separation and isolation felt by diverse groups of people by introducing the 'Sea People'. ‘Sea People’ tackles such topics as privilege, fetishization, and segregation.
I was inspired to make this from growing up in Florida and I wished to emulate the preconceptions surrounding my home state with bright, saturated beachy themes but also contrast it with the worn out infrastructure and weathered Americana Capitalist franchises that are not only scattered throughout Florida, but represents the daily struggle of living day to day that tourists don't consider since they just think of Florida as a vacation and less of a real place. I also love the variety of life in our oceans and I wished to capture some of that life and bring it to the surface.
The video on my right is my thesis animation and the video on the left is my extended thesis which I’ve been working on animating. Below are several vis dev pieces from character designs, environments, and concept development pieces to build upon ‘Welcome to Floriduh’. I’ve also been developing a webcomic to expand upon the universe and focus on the main characters.
